Yan Higa

Dissoluting elemental genres and embodying the percussive nature of Brazilian music, Yan Higa’s miscellaneous sound is dense and emotive. Introspective vocal lines unfold in a velvet melancholy, while bringing contagious energy to their presence. The compositions merge with the meta-disciplinary artist’s acquired notions of craftsmanship (sculpting, scenography, installation) and languages from visual world building to monologues, so that each track can intimately approach contemporary visions of sound design, rhythmics and ambience – layered textures, synesthesia soundscapes and asymmetric beats. As Yvu , the artist goes deeper into more extreme, relentless and procedural ways of music making.
“Growing up in the intense east side of a miscegenated capital such as São Paulo meant bursting a thick reality bubble to uncover individual self image apart from the stereotyped vision on specific Latin American culture, research, language and esthesia.”   Yan Higa is co-founder and director of Acta Collective and Acta Recordings.
